Everyone wants a UK job with visa sponsorship and one of the areas that can give you such a job is in the Health Care industry.
There is a lot of vacancies in the UK Healthcare sector. In June 2022, an official report titled NHS Key statistics and published by the UK House of commons reiterates this point. The report reads:
The total number of NHS vacancies in March 2022 was 105,855 – a vacancy
rate of 7.9%. This is an increase from the previous year, when the number of
vacancies was 76,082 and the rate was 5.9%.
Vacancies vary by NHS region – from a high of 10.9% in London to a low of
6.1% in the North East & Yorkshire NHS region.
The vacancy rate for nursing staff was 10.0% (38,972 vacancies), up from
9.2% a year earlier.
The vacancy rate for medical staff was 5.6% (8,016 vacancies), up from 4.8%
a year earlier.
These figures do not indicate where vacant roles are filled by temporary staff.
While demand for both permanent and temporary health workers in the UK are rising, there’s been recent complaints that people are still unable to land a job in the UK healthcare sector.

The reason could be one of the 5 factors I will highlight in this article. If you keep getting rejected for a healthcare job or you keep applying to several healthcare agencies and homes without getting a response, here are 5 likely causes.
1. You have No previous Healthcare experience
Not to say newbies are not getting Healthcare assistant jobs in the UK. However, the UK is an experience-driven society and every job requires that you have some kind of experience before applying. That’s not to say you need years of qualifications to land a job with a care home or agency. In fact, people with as little as 3 months experience can land a job.
In order to get the much needed experience that is required, I would suggest that you volunteer with a health care home or hospital in your location. That way, you will have some experience to put forward in your CV when you are applying for a health care job. This will greatly increase your chance of getting the job.
2. Improperly formatted CV
Another mistake most people make when applying for a healthcare job is that they use a generic CV. You cannot use a general CV to apply for a healthcare job in the UK. Your CV has to be prepared in a way that reflects your experience and capabilities regarding the role you are about applying for which is likely a Healthcare Assistant. You can get a guide to show you how to properly format your CV for a healthcare assistant role here.
3. You Have No trainings or certifications
You need trainings and certifications in order to apply for a Healthcare job in the UK. While some trainings are free, others require you to pay in order to get a certification. These trainings cover various topics such as human rights, basic hygiene, nutrition, manual handling and other subjects related to healthcare. As mentioned before, Florence Academy offers some free Healthcare courses.
4. No registration with appropriate socialcare bodies
Depending on your target area for getting a care job in the UK,you will need to register with the Health and Care Professionals Council or its local equivalent. Here’s the link to the HCPC website. If you are in Wales, you need to register with the Social Care Council of Wales. If you’re in Northern Ireland, you need to do your NISCC registration. In Scotland, you will do the Scottish Social Care Council registration.
5. No Police report.
Certain jobs in the UK require that background checks are made and the care industry requires such checks. Again, depending on your intended location, you need to conduct background checks in that location to be able to land a care job.
In summary, get some experience, fix your CV, do some trainings, register with the appropriate health/social care bodies in your location and conduct background checks. Doing all of this will greatly increase your chance of landing a care job in the UK.
