About the Job:
- Maintain high standards of written and verbal communication within the multidisciplinary team.
- Communicate with patients, carers, medical staff and visitors in a polite, professional and compassionate manner at all times.
- Receive, relay and transfer patient-related information — often of a sensitive or confidential nature — to and from other wards and departments.
- Recognise and adapt communication approaches to accommodate barriers such as speech or hearing difficulties, language differences, emotional distress or anxiety.
- Report faults, equipment issues or environmental concerns to the appropriate department and ensure the nurse in charge is informed.
- Sit with patients in the pre-operative and post-operative waiting areas, offering reassurance, support and helping to reduce fears.
- Ensure accuracy and timely completion of patient information using theatre registers and electronic recording systems.
- Support patient safety by accurately checking patient identity and documentation against the pre-operative checklist and case notes, ensuring all required documentation and equipment are available prior to anaesthesia.
- Promptly report any discrepancies or concerns to the nurse in charge.
- Recognise emergency situations and initiate appropriate emergency action in accordance with departmental protocols.
