What The Australian Global Talent Visa enables you to do:
- Live in Australia permanently
- Study and work in Australia
- Benefit from Australia’s public health care scheme, (Medicare)
- Sponsor your family to come to Australia
- Travel in and out of Australia for 5 years
- and also apply for Australian Citizenship.
Who can apply?
In order to apply, you must
- either be inside or outside of Australia. However, you must not be in immigration clearance when you apply and when the visa is granted
- have an internationally recognised record of outstanding achievement and excellence in one of the following areas:
- a profession
- sports
- arts
- academia or research
You must also have a nominator with a national reputation in your area of talent who is:

- an Australian permanent resident,
- an eligible New Zealand citizen, or
- an Australian organisation

Requirements
You should be able to establish that you can:
Be of benefit to the Australian community
- economic
- social
- cultural, or
- to raise Australia’s academic, artistic or sports standing internationally You must contribute to the nation as a whole.
Have the ability to establish yourself in Australia
You must demonstrate that you would be able to find work in your field in Australia or become independently established in your field in Australia.
Be internationally recognised with a record of achievement
You must be internationally recognised with a record of achievement in:
- a profession
- a sport
- the arts
- academia and research
Your achievements must be exceptional and outstanding. This means you:
- are prominent in your field
- have superior abilities to others in your field
- are acclaimed as exceptional in any country where your field is practised
- have a record of sustained achievement unlikely to diminish in the near future
You must also participate in a field that:
- is recognised and accepted in Australia
- has international standing
You must be currently prominent in this field.
Be nominated
You must be nominated or endorsed to apply for this visa.
Your nominator must have a national reputation in the same field as you, and be:
- an Australian citizen
- an Australian permanent resident
- an eligible New Zealand citizen, or
- an Australian organisation.
Where appropriate, your nomination should come from the peak Australian body in your field.
To make a valid application for a Global Talent visa you must provide a completed Nomination for Global Talent (Form 1000) (217KB PDF) with your application. Without the completed Form 1000, your application cannot be considered further and you will need to recommence the application process.
Nominators cannot be added or changed after you lodge your visa application.
If you are endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy or supported by the Minister or Director-General responsible for national security, you do not need a nominator, and do not need to provide Form 1000 with your application. Instead, you must provide evidence of the relevant endorsement or support.
Be this age
You can be any age to apply for this visa.
If you are under 18 years old, or are 55 years or older when you apply, you must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community. Evidence can include but is not limited to:
- statement regarding your professional plans upon settling in Australia
- job offer or employment in Australia
- service agreements or business contracts in Australia
- pitch-deck or business planning documentation for Australia
- grants associated with planned research in Australia
- membership or appointment on industry advisory boards or regulatory authorities in Australia.

Have this visa
If you are outside Australia at the time you apply, you do not need to hold a specific visa to apply for this visa. However, if you are in Australia at the time you apply, you must hold one of the following:
- a substantive visa
- Bridging visa A – BVA – (subclass 010)
- Bridging visa B – BVB – (subclass 020)
- Bridging visa C – BVC – (subclass 030)
If you currently hold, or your last substantive visa held was either:
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491); or
- Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494)
You must have held that visa for at least 3 years at the time you apply.
Have functional English
Applicants aged 18 years and older at the time of application must provide evidence of having at least functional English. You must pay a second instalment of the visa application charge if you do not have at least functional English.
