To undertake chemotherapy / cytotoxic infusions To plan, assess, implement, and evaluate programs of care for individual patients and to supervise other staff in this activity. To ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring, and safe environment is provided for the patient and their carers. To act as an advocate for the patient and family, providing them with information and support and directing them to the relevant support services where appropriate. To liaise with the multidisciplinary team, other departments, and community services as necessary.
To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence-based nursing care. This includes expanded role responsibilities, and following appropriate training. Administer medication to the level of competence as defined in PDP. To use the Patient Administration System (PAS) by Trust policy and procedure.
Working to protocol, responding to telephone calls from helpline who may require immediate advice/support Obtain valid and effective consent from patients before their investigation and treatment. Contribute to clinical governance and ensure action is taken to minimize risk to both staff and patients. Carry out risk assessments where necessary. To supervise and support staff members, deputizing for the Ward Sisters as and when required, leading on projects / new developments, and taking an active managerial role in the department To ensure that prescribed treatments are carried out and that all patients receive safe & appropriate care.
To ensure quality care is given by being familiar with agreed Department and Trust standards of care. To assist in ensuring the safety of the department, actively participating in clinical audits, clinical risk, and quality issues, including the managing and reporting of incidents. To ensure compliance with RCH Nursing policies and procedures To manage the ward budget in conjunction with the Ward sisters ensuring efficient use of finances & identifying any savings that can be made to run the ward more efficiently
